Evie's 2 month visit

Evelyn had her 2 month well visit today (yes I know she is closer to 3 months, but this is when it was able to be scheduled).  She is doing wonderfully well and all the nurses and the doctor commented on how easy going she was.  She hardly even cried when she got her shots and was smiling before I even had her completely back in my arms.  He did give us a little handout about colic because she is very fussy in the evenings.  It seems like everything the handout says is stuff that we have been doing, but it does say that it should start getting better around 3 months so I'm crossing my fingers.  I also talked to the doctor about putting Evie on a schedule.  When Lily was that young we let her set her own schedule because so many people were watching her and she was already sleeping through the night.  Now with the two of them, and the fact that Evie is still up every 3 hours at night, I feel like I need a more rigid schedule just so I keep a little of my sanity.

Here are Evie's stats:
Weight: 10.91lbs (34%tile)
Height: 22.5in (34%tile)
Head Circumference: 15 in (16%tile)

Lily is talking so much!  I am hearing her use more and more words each day and she is stringing them together into sentences more.  Yesterday there was a toy that I had gotten out for her during her nap.  When she saw it she looked at me and said very clearly "Is that for me?".  I was amazed.  I think even if it wasn't for her I would have given it to her, or found something for her, just because that language was amazing.  Right now she is really interested in all things arts and crafts and loves to take care of things.  She has a stuffed puppy dog that she carries all around and treats like her own baby.  She also loves to help me cook.

Happy Valentine's Day

I know Valentine's Day is still a couple days away, but I had a free moment now so I thought I would post early.

We did a mini photo shoot the other day that didn't quite go as planned (why do I even try to plan things with toddler and a newborn?).  We did get a couple decent photos out of it though.

Evie even got in on the fun!
Evelyn is also 2 months old!  I can't believe I have been a mother of two for 2 whole months.  It feels like Evie just came into our lives, but then there are times where I can't remember life without her.  She has grown so much in the past two months.  I don't know her exact weight and height as she doesn't have her 2 month well visit until closer to 3 months due to scheduling conflicts so I will just have to wait till then to see how big my baby is officially.

Evelyn at 2 months
There have been a lot of changes for us recently.  We started officially working on potty training yesterday with Lily.  Yesterday went great, today has not.  She has decided that she likes that the design on her pull-ups disappears when she goes in them, so she is refusing to go in the potty.  I think I am just going to buy underwear and deal with whatever messes come with it because right now she is finding diapers and pull-ups to entertaining.

Evelyn is starting to get on a schedule a bit more so that is helping with my sleep and there for sanity.  The main problem with the schedule she has come up with is that her afternoon awake time is at the exact time as Lily's nap time.  I would love to have a little bit of time to myself to get cleaning and such done.  I have heard about different ways to put your child on a schedule that works around your family schedule so I am going to have to research it a bit more.  With Lily we didn't put her on a schedule because the one she came up with on her own worked with our life at the time.

I haven't started my new job yet, but hopefully will soon.  Right now I am enjoying all the time I am getting to spend with my girls.  Also, I have taken up the hobby of sewing.  I have made an apron for myself, and just today started a dress for Lily.  I will try to post some pictures of things I make as I do them.

Fun indoor activities

Lily and I are having a lot of fun finding things to do indoors since the weather isn't nice enough to take Evie out.  Also since Evie still isn't on that much of a schedule I don't feel comfortable going out in the yard with Lily with the baby monitor and leaving Evie inside yet.

So here are some pictures of some fun things we have done this week:

Coloring in her fairy princess outfit
Playing with snow inside
Playing with the snow without her mittens
Finger painting!
which turned into hand painting!
Then face painting!

Here are also some other cute pictures from the week:

Lily loves holding and kissing her sister
Evie playing with her toys
Evie has really started interacting more with her surroundings.  We are able to get smiles out of her and she has started cooing.  This video shows some of that and then how the hiccups can ruin all the fun.

1 Month and 2 Year Check-ups

Today was Lilian's 2 year well visit and Evelyn's 1 month well visit.  Both are doing great!

Here are their stats:

Lilian:
Weight:  23.2lbs (8%tile)
Height:  32.25in (11%tile)

Evelyn:
Weight:  8.94lbs (41%tile)
Height:  21in (46%tile)
Head Circumference: 14.5in (44%tile)

The doctor is very impressed with both girls, especially how Lily helped try to calm her sister after she got a shot.  The first thing Lily said to the doctor when he walked in the room was "I want a sticker...please".  He said he doesn't have to ask about her language development after that.

Pictures and first doctor appointment

We took Evelyn to her first pediatrician appointment this past Tuesday.  She is doing wonderfully and has gained a great amount of weight.  She is an excellent nurser.  She is also great at sleeping...during the day.  For the first few days she was up most of the night.  She is starting to sleep a bit more at night which is great since Sean goes back to work tomorrow.  Lily is a great big sister.  There are times that she has problems sharing my attention, but overall she is adjusting well.

Here are a few pictures.  I will hopefully get a few more up in the days to come, but I am realizing that time on the computer is hard to come by right now.

Introducing Evelyn Rose

I would like to introduce the newest member of our family, Evelyn Rose Penner.  She was born Thursday 12/08/11 at 7:06pm.  She was much smaller than her sister at birth, weighing only 6lbs 13oz and was 19 inches long (Lily was 8lbs 3oz and 20.5 inches long).  We were only in the hospital for a little over 24 hours after she was born so we have been home for a couple days.  While Lily has been absolutely fascinated with her little sister there has definitely been some behavior problems and moments where the fascination has worn off.
Evelyn Rose Penner
Here is Evelyn's birth story.  For the past couple weeks I had been 1-2 cm dilated (which is similar to what I was with Lily for a few weeks before she was born).  Thursday morning I woke up around 4am with some contractions that were about 15 minutes apart.  This was not uncommon for me as the Wednesday before Thanksgiving I had contractions every 7 minutes for 4 hours before the abruptly stopped, and then again the following Thursday I had them every 13-15 minutes for about 6 hours and then they stopped.  I went to work as normal and they continued to average about 10 minutes apart.  I left work at 3pm like I always do and went to pick up Lily from the babysitter's house.  When I got there a little before 4pm the contractions were about 8 or 9 minutes apart and still not very strong.  I was able to walk and talk normally through them.  When Lily and I got home round 4:15 they were still about the same timing apart but getting a little bit stronger.  Around 4:30 they were 7 minutes apart and I sent Sean a text at work telling him that he didn't need to rush home, but that he should probably let work know that he may not be in the next day.  He called at 5 to say he was on his way and was home around 5:15.  By the time he got home they were about 6 minutes apart and very strong.  We gathered everything that we needed, loaded Lily in the car, and were out of the house by 5:45ish.  My doctor had said to wait to call till my contractions were 5 minutes apart.  I didn't even want to leave the house when we did because I felt they weren't close enough together and we wouldn't be admitted to the hospital.  Sean convinced me to at least leave our house and go hang out at my parents' house since it is closer to the hospital.  On the way to my parents house the contractions kept getting faster and stronger so I called the doctor and she said to go on into the hospital.  When we got to my parents house around 6:15 my contractions were about every 4 minutes apart.  We basically tossed Lily and her things at my parents and were right back on the road to the hospital.  When we got to the hospital at 6:45pm my contractions were about every 1.5 minutes.  We got a wheelchair from the valet and made our way up to labor and delivery.  When I got there they took my name and Sean wheeled me back to one of the triage rooms.  The nurses stepped out while I changed into a gown.  While I was changed I kept getting the urge to push.  Sean was wonderful and helped me finish getting changed and call the nurses in.  They checked me and said I was 9cm (although in my chart later we saw that they said 9.75cm) and they immediately wheeled me to a labor and delivery room.  It was right around 7pm so there was a shift change of nurses so there were a bunch of people in my room.  The doctor on call (which happened to be the same one that delivered Lily) from my doctor's practice wasn't there yet, but a resident was.  As soon as they got me in the room and on the table they had me start pushing.  After a few pushes Evelyn was born at 7:06pm.  About 5 minutes later the doctor on call came into the room.

This birth was much different than the 16 hours of active labor I had with Lily.  The nurses and doctors were saying that if I have more kids that I should probably come in when my contractions are about 7-8 minutes apart or else risk not making it to the hospital.  If I would have done that this time I would have been in the hospital the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and then probably sent away.

I will try to get more pictures in the next few days.  Things were a whirlwind in the hospital so most of the pictures are on Sean's phone as we didn't have a chance to get the camera out of the car.
